“Molecular Diagnostics for Emerging Infections: Use of Wastewater Sewage Surveillance Model”
The 2-day workshop titled “Molecular Diagnostics for Emerging Infections: Use of
Wastewater Sewage Surveillance Model”, held on June 19–20, 2025 at CIIMS-ARC, Nagpur
under the ICMR CCoE initiative, focused on equipping participants with hands-on training and
theoretical knowledge in wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE). Emphasizing molecular
diagnostic techniques like RT-PCR, the workshop covered sample collection, nucleic acid
extraction, and data interpretation to detect pathogens from sewage, aiding early outbreak
surveillance. It featured expert-led lectures, technical demonstrations, and interdisciplinary
insights connecting molecular biology with public health. The program, attended by 21
participants, concluded with a valedictory session featuring industry insights from Mr. Yusuf
Chimthanwawala and received positive feedback for its relevance and impact.
