CIIMS Advanced Research Centre inaugurated the first hands-on workshop series on “Next Generation Sequencing & Bioinformatics Analysis of Sequencing Data” in the City
CIIMS Advanced Research Centre (CIIMS-ARC) has organized a five-day workshop on Clinical Metagenomics Next Generation sequencing techniques and its Bioinformatics analysis from 16th– 20th January 2024. The workshop was conducted as part of a capacity building program under the Grand challenges project funded by Bill and Melinda Gates foundation and Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. During these five days, students have been given exposure to advanced and cutting edge techniques in NGS especially on CSF Metagenomics through lectures and hands-on technical sessions. The workshop module has been designed to cover every aspect of NGS from extraction, library preparation, Sequencing, data retrieval and its bioinformatics analysis. 15 participants have registered for the event which includes mostly post graduate students, Ph.D. students, and scientists from various colleges/institutes of Central India.
Dr. Rajpal Singh Kashyap, Director Research, CIIMS-ARC, has given the keynote address at the workshop. He indicated that this workshop will help students to understand the utility of Metagenomics next generation sequencing for identification of bugs responsible for causing Neuroinfection in patients who remain undiagnosed. If this works out “he said” then we will be able to identify the unknown organism which helps the clinical team to provide correct and right treatment at the early stage of infection. The other things, we will try to establish a centre of excellence for the whole Central India population to provide these services. Workshop organizer Dr. Amit Nayak, Sr. Research Consultant, CIIMS-ARC, has given the overview of the workshop and said that we will be continuing this series of workshop to spread the knowledge about this advanced research in the field of medical genomics. Dr. Vedprakash Mishra, Pro-Chancellor and Chief Advisor, Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences University, was invited as chief guest for the inaugural function. He address gathering on the importance of the workshop and its future implications. He also asked to emphasized more on translational research instead of doing only basic research.
Other team member of workshop includes Dr. Aliabbas Husain, Research Consultants; CIIMS Research Centre, along with CIIMS technical team Mrs. Payal Khulkhule, Mrs. Bhagyashri Poddar, Ms. Jayshree Shukla, and Ms. Madhavi Wele. The team members who have developed expertise in the field of genomics and bioinformatics have conducted a successful workshop.
